Indonesia and Singapore amended their memorandum of understanding (MoU) on halal product assurance at the office of Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) in East Jakarta on Thursday, 22 October 2026. The amendment was signed by Mr. Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Head of BPJPH, and Mr. Zaqy Mohamad, Singapore’s Acting Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence.

The amendment updates an MoU signed in Singapore on 8 August 2024. It sets out arrangements for halal certificate recognition, product labelling and potential digital data exchange.

In his remarks, Mr. Hasan stressed the importance of international cooperation in supporting halal product assurance. He said cooperation with Singapore was expected to strengthen bilateral relations and contribute to the development of the halal ecosystem.

Mr. Zaqy highlighted the countries’ geographic proximity and established trade relations as opportunities to expand cooperation in the halal sector. He also pointed to knowledge-sharing and the development of halal trade as areas for continued collaboration.

Under the amended MoU, the two parties agreed to recognise halal certificates and halal marks issued by each side for domestic products intended for export, subject to the laws and regulations applicable in each country.

The amendment also addresses halal labelling for products entering Indonesia in accordance with national requirements. It opens the way for halal certificate data to be exchanged through a digital platform agreed by both parties.

The amended framework builds on the original agreement while retaining the regulatory requirements applicable in Indonesia and Singapore.
