The Embassy of Indonesia in Singapore, represented by the Labor Technical Staff and Protocol Consular Function, welcomed delegates from the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower at Changi Airport, Singapore, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. This delegation attended key ASEAN meetings focusing on labour issues, including the 20th ASEAN Senior Labour Officials Meeting (SLOM), the 22nd SLOM Plus Three, the 28th ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting (ALMM), and the 13th ALMM Plus Three, held in Singapore from October 28 to 31.

The Indonesian delegation was led by Acting Director-General of Labour Inspection Development, Occupational Safety, and Health, Fahrurozi, as the head of the ALMM/ALMM Plus Three delegation, along with Purwanti Uta Djara, Head of the Bureau of Cooperation at the Ministry of Manpower, who led the SLOM/SLOM Plus Three delegation. Their participation underscored Indonesia’s active role in ASEAN labour discussions, particularly regarding policies aimed at strengthening workforce competitiveness and ensuring worker protections across the region.

During the sessions, the Ministry of Manpower reported progress on three key ASEAN declarations that Indonesia had spearheaded, all aimed at enhancing worker protections. These include the ASEAN Declaration on Promoting the Competitiveness, Resilience, and Agility of Workers for the Future of Work, the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection of Migrant Workers and Family Members in Crisis Situations, and the ASEAN Declaration on the Placement and Protection of Migrant Fishers.

To support these declarations, Indonesia introduced implementation guidelines to provide ASEAN member states with technical guidance on enacting the declarations. This progress highlights Indonesia’s commitment to fostering a safe, resilient, and competitive labour environment within ASEAN.
