Indonesia and Singapore collaborate to advance inclusive public services with a focus on digital transformation
Indonesian Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, Ms. Rini Widyantini, and Singapore’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Kwok Fook Seng, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration between the two nations. This pledge was announced during discussions held in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, focusing on inclusive public service delivery and digital transformation.
Minister Widyantini emphasised Indonesia’s intention to learn from Singapore’s advancements in digitalisation. “We need to study how the Singaporean government developed digitalisation and educated its citizens on embracing digital transformation to maximise its benefits,” she stated. The minister highlighted the importance of integrated and inclusive digital governance as a strategic platform to meet societal needs.
As part of Indonesia’s digital transformation strategy, Ms. Widyantini revealed that future efforts would prioritise a citizen-centred approach, ensuring broader community engagement. The recent issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 82 of 2023 on Accelerating Digital Transformation and National Digital Service Integration underscores this commitment.
Ambassador Kwok Fook Seng shared insights into Singapore’s two-decade-long journey towards digital integration, acknowledging similar challenges faced by Indonesia today. He noted that early efforts to consolidate various governmental applications required significant time and coordination.
Despite the focus on digitalisation, Kwok stressed Singapore’s commitment to inclusivity, maintaining conventional service methods to accommodate senior citizens less adept at using digital platforms. “Public services must cater to all, bridging generational gaps in digital skills,” he remarked.
