Indonesia’s deputy ministers observed Singapore’s prison management practices, highlighting community-centred reintegration efforts and strengthened bilateral cooperation
The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Singapore accompanied Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim and Deputy Minister of Women and Child Protection Veronica Tan on a working visit to Singapore. The visit took place this week as part of ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation in prison management and community protection.

During the visit, the Indonesian delegation observed first-hand the management of prisons and prisoner rehabilitation programmes in Singapore. Officials received briefings on Singapore’s approach to correctional services, including systems used to manage inmates and support their reintegration into society.
The delegation also gained insight into socialisation practices that emphasised the involvement of families and communities in the rehabilitation process. These community-centred initiatives have contributed to lowering recidivism rates in Singapore, reflecting the effectiveness of sustained social support for former inmates.

KBRI Singapore reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration and sharing best practices with Singaporean counterparts. The embassy noted that continued cooperation would support improvements in Indonesia’s correctional system and enhance community protection efforts.
