The 79th Indonesian Independence Day event at the Embassy of Indonesia in Singapore captivated over 4,000 attendees with star-studded performances and a lively bazaar
THE Embassy of Indonesia in Singapore hosted a vibrant celebration of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day on Sunday, August 25th, 2024. The event was officially opened by the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Suryo Pratomo, and attracted approximately 4,000 Indonesian citizens and diaspora.
The main stage performances began with local talents who had won auditions for the event. Renowned Indonesian band Kahitna, accompanied by singer Arsy Widianto, captivated the audience with their classic hits such as “Cantik,” “Tentang Diriku,” “Cerita Cinta,” and “Tak Sebebas Merpati.” Ambassador Suryo Pratomo also joined Kahitna on stage to sing “Soulmate,” adding a special touch to the festivities.
Other performances included singers Wika Salim and Rischa KDI, accompanied by Barika Band, who energised the crowd with popular dangdut songs like “Seperti Mati Lampu,” “Ikan Dalam Kolam,” “Sambalado,” and “Pamer Bojo.” These performances were particularly enjoyed by the Indonesian migrant workers in attendance.
Meanwhile, the bazaar area was equally bustling with visitors eager to sample traditional Indonesian dishes rarely found in Singapore. The bazaar featured various Indonesian restaurants under the “Rasa Indonesia” initiative, a program by the Indonesian Ministry of Trade to promote Indonesian culinary products globally.
The appearance of Andika Mahesa, also known as Babang Tamvan, further enlivened the event. His performance of Kangen Band songs kept the audience engaged and unwilling to leave. The Independence Day celebration, which included music, cultural performances, and Indonesian cuisine, marked the climax of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day commemorations organised by the Embassy of Indonesia in Singapore
