NATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN EXPRESSES CONFIDENCE IN THE GOLD MEDAL PROSPECTS OF INDONESIAN ROCK CLIMBING ATHLETES AHEAD OF THE PARIS OLYMPICS.

Chairman of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), Raja Sapta Oktohari, expressed confidence in the gold medal potential of two Indonesian rock climbing athletes set to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, during the 2024 NOC Members Meeting and Extraordinary Congress held on 8 March 2024.

The athletes in question, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi and Rahmad Adi Mulyono, have demonstrated impressive prowess in recent competitions, with Desak securing a gold medal in the women’s speed category at the IFSC rock climbing event in Bern, Switzerland, and Rahmad clinching gold at the IFSC championship in Jakarta, both in 2023.

Bapak Oktohari highlighted the significant achievements of these athletes as a strong indication of Indonesia’s prospects for securing gold medals in rock climbing at the upcoming Paris Olympics, underscoring the nation’s expanding potential across multiple sporting disciplines.

In addition to rock climbing, Pak Oktohari emphasised the broader spectrum of opportunities for Indonesia to excel and potentially secure gold medals in various other sports at the 2024 Paris Olympics, reflecting the nation’s evolving athletic landscape and increasing participation across diverse events.

NOC Indonesia disclosed that, to date, seven athletes representing five different sports have qualified for the Paris Olympics, with ongoing efforts underway for athletes in other disciplines to secure qualification through rigorous competitions and performance assessments.

The roster of Indonesian athletes set to compete in Paris includes representatives from archery, artistic gymnastics, shooting, and surfing, reflecting the nation’s diverse athletic talent and its aspirations for success on the global stage.
