MINISTER COORDINATOR FOR ECONOMIC AFFAIRS AIRLANNGA HARTANTO MET WITH SINGAPORE’S AMBASSADOR TO INDONESIA, KWOK FOOK SENG, TO DISCUSS THE BILATERAL ECONOMIC COOPERATION THROUGH 6 WORKING GROUPS (WG) BETWEEN INDONESIA AND SINGAPORE

In an important bilateral meeting, Minister Coordinator for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Singapore’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Kwok Fook Seng, convened to discuss enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries. The meeting focused on the framework of 6 Working Groups (WG) which serves as a platform to strengthen economic ties in areas such as the Batam, Bintan, Karimun (BBK) and other Special Economic Zones (KEK). The collaboration also aimed at advancing sectors including investment, transportation, labor, agribusiness and tourism.

“It is hoped that the Ministerial Meeting of the 6 WG can be convened prior to the leaders’ summit,” stated Minister Airlangga during an official briefing held in Jakarta on Wednesday (3/4). The discussions aimed to align strategies and set goals before the upcoming Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Clean Economy Investor Forum scheduled for June 2024 in Singapore.

Meanwhile, the details of time and location for the Leaders’ Retreat (LR) are still under discussion by both governments. This year’s LR marks the final meeting for both leaders, considering President Joko Widodo’s term conclusion on October 20, 2024, and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s anticipated stepping down before November 2024.

In preparation for the Ministerial Meeting (MM) of the 6 WG, a Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) is scheduled for May 2024 in Yogyakarta. Representatives from each of the 6 WG working groups will convene to provide updates on the progress within their respective areas.

“I am looking forward to positive updates from the 6 WG working groups ahead of the Ministerial Meeting in Singapore,” said Minister Airlangga, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing bilateral economic cooperation.
