President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) engaged with women operating microenterprises in Batu Bara District during his working trip to North Sumatra on Wednesday, as reported by his office.

In the meeting, President Jokowi provided encouragement to the women participants, who are recipients of the Prosperous Family’s Economy (Mekaar) Funding Program, urging them to uphold discipline, enthusiasm, and perseverance in their endeavors.

Reflecting on his own entrepreneurial journey, the president recounted establishing a furniture business in Solo, Central Java, in 1988, which expanded to Jakarta and its vicinity within three years due to his unwavering commitment and tireless work ethic.

President Jokowi underscored the importance of discipline, highlighting the necessity for business proprietors to honor their commitments and deadlines, a crucial element in nurturing strong entrepreneurial values.

Commending the Mekaar Program beneficiaries in North Sumatra for their diligent repayment habits, President Jokowi expressed satisfaction with the low default rate of only 0.5 percent among the 1.1 million individuals who received a total of Rp17.7 trillion (approximately US$1.1 billion) in loans.

The president’s visit aimed to provide support and encouragement to grassroots entrepreneurs while acknowledging their contributions to economic development and social prosperity in the region.
