Three students participated in an international teaching assistance program at Sekolah Indonesia (Singapore) Ltd from September 23rd to October 20th, 2024
UNIVERSITAS Jember launched its International Teaching Assistance program, sending three students to Sekolah Indonesia (Singapore) Ltd for two months starting September 23th, 2024. Accompanying them was Rifa’ati Dina Handayani, the Head of the Field Experience Laboratory at Universitas Jember.
The program aimed to enhance students’ teaching competencies on an international scale. Rifa’ati noted that the initiative stemmed from a proposal by Dr. Rayendra Wahyu, a faculty member recently returned from his doctoral studies in the Netherlands, who sought to provide new experiences for students. Coordination with Mr. Satrya Wibawa, the Educational Attaché in Singapore, led to the successful arrangement of this teaching opportunity.
During the program, students conducted online classes for the first month from Indonesia, followed by in-person teaching at Sekolah Indonesia (Singapore) Ltd. They engaged in practical teaching, data collection for research, and community service in collaboration with faculty from their respective programs.
The selected students included Lutfiana Maulidatus Sa’diyah from the Biology Education program, Kamilia Samaindra Zahidah from the IPA Education program, and Karina Febiola Lutfiansyah from the Early Childhood Education program. Each student was paired with a mentor teacher from their study program.
Support from the university administration was evident, with the Rector and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs encouraging students to make the most of this opportunity, aiming to positively represent Universitas Jember in Singapore. The Rector expressed hope that this experience would pave the way for further international collaborations in research and community service, expanding beyond mere teaching.
