The opening of Rumah Makan Minang’s new branch in Singapore marks another step in promoting Indonesia’s rich culinary heritage on the global stage
On 24 April 2025, Rumah Makan Minang, a renowned Indonesian restaurant in Singapore, officially opened its latest branch in the Jurong West Central Frontier Community Club, further cementing its role in promoting Indonesian cuisine abroad. The event was graced by the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Suryo Pratomo, who attended to show support for Indonesia’s culinary diplomacy.

Rumah Makan Minang is widely regarded as a pioneer in bringing authentic Minangkabau cuisine to Singapore. The restaurant is known for its signature dishes such as dendeng balado, rendang, gulai ayam, and ayam pop, all prepared using traditional recipes that preserve the true flavours of Indonesia.
The management of Rumah Makan Minang, in their address, expressed that the opening of the new branch was more than just about expanding their business—it was about bringing Indonesia closer to the hearts of Singaporeans. Through its offerings, the restaurant aims to introduce the rich culture and culinary heritage of West Sumatra to the local community.
This new outlet is also a testament to the growing influence of gastro diplomacy, where food serves as a medium to build international relationships. While the restaurant remains a favourite among the Indonesian diaspora in Singapore, it has also attracted interest from locals and international visitors eager to experience the diverse flavours of Indonesia.
Ambassador Suryo Pratomo expressed his appreciation for Rumah Makan Minang’s consistent efforts to promote Indonesian cuisine. He highlighted the strategic importance of introducing Indonesia through one of its most accessible and beloved cultural elements—food. He encouraged more culinary entrepreneurs to join in showcasing Indonesia’s gastronomic heritage to the world.
The grand opening was attended by several prominent figures, including Zainul Abidin Rasheed, the Ambassador of Singapore to Kuwait (non-resident), Hawaizi, the Non-Resident Representative of Singapore to Palestine, as well as Singaporean Parliament member Amrin Amin.
