From flag ceremonies to cultural showcases, the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore marked the Republic’s 80th Independence Day with unity, gratitude, and pride
Singapore, 17 August 2025 – With a deep sense of reverence and national pride, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore commemorated the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence on 17 August 2025. Under the theme “Bersatu, Berdaulat, Rakyat Sejahtera, Indonesia Maju” or “United, Sovereign, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia”, this year’s celebration stood as a powerful reflection of Indonesia’s journey and aspirations, at home and abroad.

The highlight of the morning was the solemn flag-hoisting ceremony held at the Embassy grounds, led by Ambassador Suryo Pratomo. The raising of the Merah Putih was performed by the Paskibra team from the Indonesian School in Singapore, accompanied by a stirring aubade that echoed the patriotic spirit of the occasion. The event was attended by members of the Indonesian diaspora, embassy staff, state-owned enterprise representatives, and local partners.

Adding a special touch to the celebration, the Embassy presented the Adinata Award to Nomanbhoy and Son Pte Ltd, a company with over a century-long partnership in Indonesian trade, particularly in spices and coffee. The award recognised the firm’s ongoing commitment to ethical, sustainable practices and its role in strengthening economic and social ties between Indonesia and Singapore.

The celebration continued with a thanksgiving reception to mark Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, an occasion that brought together the Indonesian Embassy, the Indonesian diaspora, and local partners in Singapore. The warm and convivial atmosphere strengthened the spirit of unity and dedication to the nation.

Following the flag-raising ceremony, all attendees gathered in the Nusantara Hall of the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore to watch the live broadcast of the Proclamation moment during the state ceremony led by the former President of the Republic of Indonesia. This shared experience served as a poignant reminder of the unity and bond among all citizens, even when far from home.

The festivities were rounded off with a warm and spirited evening of music, camaraderie, and reflection. The flag-lowering ceremony later that day served as a respectful close to the day’s events, carried out with the same solemnity that marked the morning. This symbolic conclusion reaffirmed the enduring nationalism of Indonesians abroad and their collective dedication to building a brighter future for their country.
