East Java’s Governor visited Singapore under the RISING Fellowship to deepen collaboration in the future economy, education, and skills development
Singapore welcomed East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa during her visit under the RISING Fellowship, a key initiative designed to enhance engagement with Indonesia’s regional leaders. The visit underscored the longstanding and multi-layered ties between Singapore and East Java, particularly in the economic, historical, and cultural spheres.
East Java, with Surabaya as its capital, has historically served as a maritime gateway linking Indonesia with Southeast Asia. The region also holds significant historical importance in Indonesia’s independence movement. Today, Singapore remains East Java’s second-largest investor, reflecting strong economic interdependence and active people-to-people exchanges.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan held discussions with Governor Khofifah, focusing on new areas of cooperation. Both sides explored opportunities in the future economy, including digital transformation, education exchanges, and skills development. The meeting reaffirmed the shared interest in strengthening collaboration to support regional growth.
Governor Khofifah is undertaking a full programme in Singapore as part of the Fellowship. Singapore conveyed its appreciation for her visit and expressed confidence that the engagements would contribute to deepening cooperation between Singapore and East Java.
