Singapore, 7 October 2025 — The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Singapore, Mr Suryo Pratomo, participated as a panel speaker at the SMU–SMC Leadership Symposium: Fostering Global-Ready Changemakers 2025, held at the Mochtar Riady Auditorium, Singapore Management University (SMU). The symposium brought together diplomats, business leaders, and educators to discuss leadership and global readiness among today’s youth.

Joining fellow panellists Walter de Oude, CEO of Chocolate Finance, and Per Magnusson, Group CEO of Jebsen & Jessen, the session was moderated by Professor Lim Sun Sun. Ambassador Suryo underscored the importance of nurturing young generations who are globally minded yet grounded in their national values. “Young people must cultivate a global mindset without losing their identity. Amid rapid technological change, national values serve as the moral compass guiding sustainable development,” he stated.

The discussion featured lively exchanges with questions from both the moderator and a diverse audience comprising professionals, students, and international participants. Ambassador Suryo addressed key challenges in education and human resource development, emphasising the need for strong collaboration between government, industry, and civil society to align education transformation with technological progress and workforce demands.

The Ambassador’s participation reflected Indonesia’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen intellectual and educational linkages across borders, while promoting youth empowerment and cross-cultural understanding. The SMU–SMC Leadership Symposium, held for the first time this year, aims to connect ambassadors, business leaders, and mentors from various sectors to inspire students through industry exposure, intercultural insights, and global perspectives.
