The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Indonesia reports a rise in the percentage of domestic tourists AKA WISNAS travelling to Singapore following the organisation of international music concerts
THE Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that there was an increase in the percentage of Indonesian domestic tourists, or “wisnas,” travelling to Singapore due to the hosting of international music concerts.
“Visits by Indonesian domestic tourists to Singapore were driven by the organisation of international music concerts held in the country,” said Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, in Jakarta on Thursday, 2nd May 2024.
The increase can be seen in the proportion of domestic tourist visits to destination countries. In February 2024, the proportion of “wisnas” visiting Singapore was 16.65 percent. This proportion rose to 17.26 percent.
Overall, the total number of domestic tourist trips in March 2024 reached 691.55 thousand trips. Ms. Amalia mentioned that this figure had increased by 4.85 percent compared to the previous month, from 659,564 trips in February 2024.
Previously, in March 2024, American singer Taylor Swift held a world music tour titled “Eras Tour” in the Southeast Asian region. Singapore was Taylor Swift’s only destination in Southeast Asia.
Eras Tour Inspire Similar Concert Plans
The agreement for the world tour in the neighbouring country was not for a single day but for six days, from 2nd-4th March 2024, and continued on 7th-9th March 2024, attracting foreign tourists to attend the live concerts in Singapore.
In response, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan proposed organising exclusive music concerts to compete with Singapore, which hosts similar activities by contracting world-renowned singers like Taylor Swift.
Minister Luhut revealed that he had held meetings regarding this plan and decided that within six months, one of the entertainment industry players who brought in foreign artists would receive activity permits. He also urged these industry players to contract with other artists and organise rival concerts.
