Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, offers collaboration in agriculture, blue food, and cross-border Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) to Singapore
MINISTER Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan extended proposals for collaboration in agriculture, blue food, and cross-border Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) during his visit to Singapore. Through his official Instagram, he highlighted the potential opportunities for cooperation, particularly emphasising the significance of cross-border CCS initiatives in building low-carbon industries.
Minister Luhut expressed confidence in the transformative potential of cross-border CCS initiatives, stating that they would catalyse significant advancements in low-carbon industry development for both Indonesia and Singapore. CCS technology serves as a crucial mitigation tool for reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, in line with Indonesia’s position which is considered as the fastest regulator of CCS in the Asia-Pacific region.
Seaweed Farming
In addition to CCS initiatives, Minister Luhut proposed collaboration in agriculture and blue food, with a specific focus on the development of seaweed farming in Indonesia. He highlighted Singapore’s interest in various collaboration opportunities, signalling potential avenues for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Mr. Wong also conveyed his desire and commitment in developing Bali as a destination for fitness tourism through the construction of international standard hospitals.
The discussions between Minister Luhut and Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Lawrence Wong occurred during Luhut’s visit to Singapore on Tuesday, 23rd April 2024. In addition to meeting with Mr. Wong, Minister Luhut also had discussions with Prime Minister Mr. Lee Hsien Loong.
Minister Luhut emphasised the significant progress in cooperation between Singapore and Indonesia across various sectors, including bilateral, regional, and multilateral domains. He highlighted the commitment to further enhancing and expanding these collaborations, underlining the importance of continued partnership between the two nations.
