New direct flights between Singapore and Belitung are expected to boost tourism, investment, and regional connectivity between Indonesia and Singapore
Singapore, 3 May 2026 — The launch of Scoot Airlines’ direct Singapore–Belitung route marks a strategic step towards strengthening connectivity and enhancing bilateral relations between Indonesia and Singapore. Indonesia’s Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Hotmangaradja Pandjaitan, joined the inaugural flight on 3 May 2026, underscoring the significance of the new connection.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Hotmangaradja expressed support for the new route, describing it as an important milestone in expanding access for tourism and investment opportunities between the two countries.
“With a relatively short travel time, Belitung is now increasingly accessible as an alternative destination offering authentic natural beauty and efficient travel experiences,” he said.

The launch also coincides with the reinstatement of the international status of H.A.S. Hanandjoeddin Airport, reflecting Belitung’s readiness to welcome international tourists and global business communities.
As part of the programme surrounding the inaugural flight, a familiarisation trip (famtrip) to Belitung was organised for Singapore-based travel agents, tour operators, and influencers. The initiative aims to strengthen Belitung’s international exposure, particularly within the Singapore market, while encouraging greater inbound tourism.
The new direct route is expected to serve as a catalyst for regional economic growth by opening wider investment opportunities alongside the empowerment of local communities.
Through strong collaboration between government agencies, industry stakeholders, and international partners, the enhanced connectivity is anticipated to support inclusive and sustainable growth for both Indonesia and Singapore.
