INDONESIAN MINISTER OF TOURISM MEETS SINGAPOREAN OFFICIALS TO DISCUSS POTENTIAL PARTNERSHIPS IN HOSTING WORLD-CLASS CONCERTS AND EVENTS, AIMING TO BOOST TOURISM AND CREATIVE ECONOMY.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno engaged in discussions with Singaporean officials to explore collaboration opportunities in showcasing top-tier music concerts and other international events in Indonesia.
The meeting took place recently, as confirmed by a statement received on Sunday (10 March 2024), where Minister Uno met with Singaporean Minister of Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations, Grace Fu Hai Yien.
Minister Uno underscored the economic potential of international concerts and events, citing the recent Taylor Swift concert in Singapore as an example that significantly boosted the country’s economy through increased tourist spending.
To support such initiatives, the Indonesian government is preparing the Indonesia Tourism Fund, aimed at providing funding and incentives for actors in the tourism and creative economy sectors.
Special incentives will be offered to promoters or event organisers hosting international-level attractions in Indonesia, extending beyond music concerts to include cultural and sports events.
In addition to financial support, collaborative efforts with government ministries and agencies will focus on infrastructure development, permit digitisation, and the enhancement of relevant human resources.
The optimisation of measures to combat ticket scalping aims to improve Indonesia’s reputation among Southeast Asian countries for hosting international events, with streamlined permit processes expected to facilitate smoother operations for promoters.
Minister Uno emphasised the quality of Indonesian musicians, highlighting their parity with international counterparts, and emphasised the abundant platforms available for local artists to showcase their talents amidst a diverse range of music concerts held annually.
