Singapore, 28 May 2025 — Sekolah Indonesia Singapura (SIS) held its annual Purnawiyata (graduation ceremony) for students who have completed their studies at the primary, junior, and senior secondary levels. The solemn and heartfelt occasion underscored the role of education as a strategic tool in strengthening national identity and building character among Indonesian youth abroad.

The event was graced by the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Singapore, H.E. Suryo Pratomo, who expressed deep appreciation for the achievements of the students, the dedication of the teachers, and the vital support of parents throughout the educational journey of Indonesian children living overseas.

In his address, the Ambassador highlighted that Indonesian schools abroad are not merely centres for academic learning, but also vital spaces for instilling national values, nurturing a strong sense of Indonesian identity, and inspiring young people to contribute meaningfully on the global stage.

Ambassador Pratomo also presented awards to three outstanding students from each educational level for achieving the highest academic scores. The emotional highlight of the event was the traditional sungkeman ceremony—a moment filled with tears and warm embraces, symbolising gratitude, respect for parents, and the deeper meaning of education beyond academics.

Headmaster Semuel Kuriake Balubun noted that this year’s graduates had made significant achievements both academically and non-academically. He reaffirmed SIS’s commitment to providing a holistic education by blending Indonesia’s national curriculum with a global perspective, positioning the school as not only an academic institution but also a pillar of Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy in Singapore.
