The Singapore Government offers full scholarships for ASEAN students, including Indonesians, to pursue undergraduate studies in Singapore’s leading universities.
The Singapore Government has announced the reopening of applications for the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship and the Dr. Goh Keng Swee (GKS) Scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year. This initiative aims to provide outstanding Indonesian students the opportunity to pursue undergraduate studies at Singapore’s top universities.
A press release from the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta on Tuesday outlined that the scholarships are reviewed annually and contingent upon the recipients maintaining excellent academic performance.
The ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship is a full scholarship open to students from ASEAN countries, including Indonesia. It enables recipients to study at one of six Singaporean Autonomous Universities – the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).
Applicants are required to apply directly to the universities of their choice, and graduates of the program will be obligated to work for three years at a Singapore-based company or a Singaporean company operating in their home country.
The Dr. Goh Keng Swee Scholarship (GKS) is a private-sector initiative managed by the Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS). This scholarship was established by Singapore’s financial community to honor the late Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Goh Keng Swee, who was instrumental in transforming Singapore into a leading international financial center.
Each year, three to four scholarships are awarded to exceptional students from 15 Asia-Pacific countries, including Indonesia. Recipients can pursue undergraduate studies at NUS, NTU, SMU, or SUTD. Similar to the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship, graduates must fulfill a three-year work commitment with a Singaporean company.
Applications for the scholarships will open in November 2024, with each university setting its own deadlines. Candidates selected for the scholarships will be invited to virtual interviews with the Scholarship Selection Board between May and July 2025. Application details and further information are available on university websites and through the ABS portal (http://abs.org.sg/dr-goh-keng-swee-scholarship).
The scholarships reflect Singapore’s commitment to fostering regional educational ties and building strong relationships with ASEAN nations. By offering world-class education and career development opportunities, Singapore continues to position itself as a hub for academic excellence and regional collaboration.
