Singapore, 28 May 2025 — Sekolah Indonesia Singapura (SIS) held its annual Purnawiyata graduation ceremony on 28 May, celebrating students who have completed their primary, junior high, and senior high school education. The occasion marked not only an academic milestone but also a meaningful expression of Indonesian identity and character-building abroad.

The ceremony was attended by Indonesia’s Ambassador to Singapore, Suryo Pratomo, who delivered a warm and inspiring address. He expressed deep appreciation for the students’ achievements, the dedication of teachers, and the unwavering support of parents in ensuring quality education for Indonesian children living overseas.

In his remarks, Ambassador Pratomo highlighted that Indonesian schools abroad serve as more than just academic institutions. They are also strategic platforms for nurturing national values, strengthening cultural identity, and preparing students to contribute positively in a globalised world.

The ambassador presented awards to three top-performing students—one from each educational level—and took part in the emotional sungkeman ceremony, where students paid respects to their parents and teachers. This traditional gesture underscored the broader values of gratitude, humility, and respect that SIS seeks to instil alongside academic excellence.

Principal of SIS, Semuel Kuriake Balubun, noted that this year’s graduates had made notable achievements in both academic and non-academic spheres. He reaffirmed the school’s commitment to providing holistic education through a blend of the Indonesian national curriculum and global perspectives. The Purnawiyata celebration reinforced the role of Indonesian overseas schools as vital agents of cultural diplomacy and character education.
