GEN Maruli Simanjuntak received the MSM(M) award for enhancing defence ties between the Indonesian and Singapore Armies during his visit to Singapore
The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army, General (GEN) Maruli Simanjuntak, was conferred the prestigious Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera), or Meritorious Service Medal (Military) [MSM(M)], by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on 17 April 2025. The award was presented by Singapore’s Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen, at an investiture held at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF).
GEN Maruli was recognised for his significant contributions to strengthening bilateral defence relations between the Indonesian Army (Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Darat – TNI-AD) and the Singapore Army. Under his leadership, both Armies enhanced professional interactions and people-to-people ties through high-level visits, joint training courses, and bilateral exercises, including Exercise Safkar Indopura and the 30th anniversary of Exercise Chandrapura in 2024.
GEN Maruli was in Singapore from 16 to 17 April 2025 on his introductory visit. Prior to the investiture, he called on Minister Ng and Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng, following an inspection of the Guard of Honour at MINDEF.
As part of his itinerary, GEN Maruli also visited SAFTI City and participated in the SAF-TNI Army Interaction Games, including a shooting competition held at the Multi Mission Range Complex, further symbolising the strong defence cooperation between the two nations.
