BINTAN, INDONESIA – The OCBC Singapore National Championship 2025 concluded on Sunday, 22 June, after three days of intense competition across scenic routes in Bintan, Riau Islands Province. A total of 286 cyclists from 29 countries participated in this international cycling event, nearly doubling the number from the 2023 edition held in Terminal Lagoi.
Arief Sumarsono, Head of the Bintan Culture and Tourism Department, stated that the race, which commenced on Friday, 20 June, allowed participants to experience the natural beauty of Bandar Seri Bentan, the regency’s capital, in a peaceful setting away from urban bustle. He expressed gratitude to the organisers for once again selecting Bintan as the host and reaffirmed the region’s commitment to delivering memorable sport tourism experiences.
Participants competed in a wide range of categories — both individual and group — covering distances from 10 to 120 kilometres. The longest route began in the Bandar Seri Bentan office complex and passed through Trikora Beach, Berakit, Pengudang, and Bintan Buyu before reaching the finish line.
The Bintan government acknowledged the crucial support of the Singapore Cycling Federation, Indonesia Cycling Federation (PB ISSI), PB ISSI Kepri, PB ISSI Bintan, and all participating athletes. Arief noted that with nearly 1,000 guests entering Bintan during the event, including athletes and their teams, the championship had a significant positive impact on local tourism.
Local authorities expressed their hope to make the OCBC Singapore National Championship a recurring annual event, viewing it as a vital opportunity to elevate Bintan’s profile on the global sport tourism stage without relying on regional funding.
