On Monday, 21 April 2025, the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore collaborated with Komunitas Cinta Berkain Indonesia (KCBI) Singapore Branch to host a women’s empowerment event in honour of Kartini Day. The event aimed to pay tribute to the legacy of R.A. Kartini and serve as a practical effort to enhance the confidence and capacities of Indonesian women living abroad, particularly in Singapore.

Carrying the theme “Perempuan Indonesia: Jika Mau dan Disiplin, Pasti Bisa!” (Indonesian Women: If Willing and Disciplined, It Can Be Done!), the event featured a short seminar on public speaking by Ayu Putri Andahayani, an instructor from Classy Learning Centre in Padang, West Sumatra. Participants explored the importance of public speaking as an essential skill in the workplace, community organisations, and social life.

The programme also included a kain-wearing tutorial led by Desi Windanarni Wilson, Chairperson of KCBI Singapore Branch. Participants learned how to wear kain gracefully for both daily and formal occasions, embracing Indonesian cultural heritage. A traditional Betawi Yapong dance performed by members of DWP KBRI Singapore and KCBI Singapore added a festive and cultural touch to the celebration.

Dozens of participants from various Indonesian diaspora communities in Singapore attended the event, including housewives, students, and professionals. They engaged enthusiastically in the series of activities, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of Indonesian women living in the city-state.

Noeri Widowati, Chairperson of DWP KBRI Singapore, underscored the importance of enhancing the capacities of Indonesian women abroad to help them adapt and contribute globally. The event reaffirmed women’s roles as vital pillars of the family, society, and national development.
