The upcoming F1 Powerboat competition will be held alongside the National Aquabike Indonesia Championship and promises an exhilarating weekend of water sports and cultural festivities on 2nd and 3rd March 2024 at Lake Toba
TOURISM holding company InJourney’s director of marketing and tourism programs, Ibu Maya Watono, announced that the F1 Powerboat competition at Lake Toba, North Sumatra will also coincide with the National Aquabike Indonesia Championship. The AIC, organised by the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI), aims to nurture local jetski talent and enhance their competitive skills through races featuring two categories: Endurance and Parallel Slalom that will involve a minimum of 20 national racers.
InJourney anticipates the dual sporting event to serve as a platform for local athletes to hone their abilities and prepare for international competitions, contributing to the development of Indonesia’s water sports scene.
The F1 Powerboat competition, renowned for its world-class spectacle, will captivate audiences against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Toba. Attendees can also immerse themselves in various cultural festivals alongside the thrilling aquatic races, creating a vibrant atmosphere for spectators.
In addition to the adrenaline-pumping races, the event will feature participation from local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) alongside prominent brand merchants, offering attendees a diverse array of products and experiences. Live performances by popular bands are also scheduled to entertain spectators throughout the event.
Beyond the F1 Powerboat and AIC, Lake Toba will host the Bataknese Solu Bolon, a traditional dragon boat race aimed at preserving local heritage and traditions. Winners of the race stand to receive a total prize pool of IDR250 million (approximately US$16 thousand), further incentivising participation and celebrating indigenous culture.
With the convergence of international sporting events and cultural festivities, InJourney aims to bolster tourism in Lake Toba, attracting visitors from far and wide to witness the thrill of competitive water sports amidst the natural splendour of Indonesia’s largest volcanic lake.
