INDONESIA AND SINGAPORE LAUNCHED THEIR FIRST DEFENCE COOPERATION COMMITTEE MEETING IN JAKARTA, MARKING A SIGNIFICANT STEP IN BILATERAL DEFENSE RELATIONS.
On July 17, 2024, the first Defence Cooperation Committee (DCC) meeting between Indonesia and Singapore took place at Hotel Borobudur in Jakarta. The meeting was led by Plt. Secgen Kemhan Donny Ermawan Taufanto, M.D.S., M.S.P, representing Indonesia, while the Singaporean delegation was headed by Mr. Chan Heng Kee, Permanent Secretary (Defence) at the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) of Singapore.
During the reception, Plt. Sekjen Kemhan highlighted the historic nature of the meeting, noting that it is a key milestone in the bilateral defense relationship between Indonesia and Singapore. This meeting aligns with the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) signed by both nations in 2007, which, despite its recent ratification, reflects a long history of joint exercises, multilateral cooperation, and educational exchanges aimed at enhancing mutual trust and capability development.
Mr. Chan Heng Kee emphasized the importance of the DCC as a platform to strengthen empathy and cooperation between the two countries. The meeting concluded with the signing of the Minutes of Meeting by Plt. Sekjen Kemhan and Mr. Chan Heng Kee, formalizing the discussions and agreements reached.
