Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin conducted a series of high-level meetings in Singapore to strengthen bilateral defense relations between the two nations. The visit began with a courtesy call to Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at The Istana. The discussions emphasized the long-standing ties and mutual commitment to regional stability and security, reflecting the robust partnership between Indonesia and Singapore.
Following the meeting with Prime Minister Wong, Minister Sjafrie met Singapore’s Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen. The meeting was marked by a formal welcome ceremony, where Minister Sjafrie was greeted by a ceremonial guard of honor. This gesture highlighted the respect and warmth extended to him by Singaporean officials, acknowledging his extensive experience and contributions to Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense.
A key topic of discussion during these meetings was President Prabowo Subianto’s initiative to establish a military training facility in Kalimantan. Both Singaporean leaders expressed strong support for the project, underscoring its strategic importance for enhancing the defense capabilities and cooperation of both nations. “We must bring the Kalimantan military training facility to fruition within one year to uphold the commitment of President Prabowo and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in enhancing defense cooperation between our nations,” said Minister Ng Eng Hen.
The proposed military training facility in Kalimantan is envisioned as a collaborative effort to strengthen the operational readiness of both countries’ armed forces.
