President Tharman Shanmugaratnam presents an appreciation award to the Indonesian Embassy at the Shaping Hearts 2024 festival

The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore was commended by the North East Community Development Council for its efforts in supporting Indonesian artists with disabilities at the Shaping Hearts 2024 arts festival. The appreciation was personally handed over by Singapore’s President, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, to the embassy’s representative, Rizki Kusumastuti, First Secretary of Information, Social, and Cultural Affairs, during the festival’s opening ceremony in Tampines on October 19th, 2024.

Shaping Hearts 2024, now in its sixth edition, is an inclusive arts festival celebrating the talents of artists with disabilities. This year’s event featured 500 artworks created by more than 200 local and international disabled artists. The festival continues to promote awareness and appreciation for the contributions of people with disabilities in the creative sector.

Indonesia’s participation was represented by the foundation Yayasan Griya Bina Karya Anak Berkebutuhan Khusus from South Tangerang. Two of its members, Kezia and Hikari, showcased their artwork. Both Kezia and Hikari are individuals with autism who have demonstrated remarkable artistic talent, contributing to the event’s vibrant showcase of diverse creative expressions.

The involvement of Indonesian artists in such international platforms highlights the country’s commitment to inclusivity and support for persons with disabilities, particularly in the arts. This recognition further strengthens cultural ties between Singapore and Indonesia, fostering collaboration through the arts.
