Minister Sandiaga Uno anticipates Indonesia’s rise in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024 will boost domestic investment, particularly in tourism and creative economy sectors.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, expressed confidence that Indonesia’s improved ranking in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024 will significantly enhance foreign investor interest in Indonesia. He made these remarks during the “Appreciation of the TTDI 2024 Ranking Increase” event held on Wednesday, 19th June.
According to the report released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on 21st May 2024, Indonesia is now among the top 10 countries with the most improved TTDI performance since 2019, with a score increase of 4.5 percent. This achievement places Indonesia at 22nd out of 119 countries globally, 6th in the Asia-Pacific region, and 2nd in ASEAN. This accomplishment is a result of collaborative efforts from all stakeholders in the tourism sector.
Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Angela Tanoesoedibjo, emphasised the need for improved assessment indicators following this success. Key areas that require improvement include health and hygiene, tourist service and infrastructure, ICT readiness, openness to T&T, and human resources and labour market and environmental sustainability.
“In terms of hygiene, during the pandemic, we issued the CHSE standardisation, which has become a lever for Indonesia’s tourism. CHSE can be enhanced and perfected to accommodate today’s conditions. So if it’s strengthened in the next government, I believe it can address this hygiene issue,” Ms Angela explained.
Former Tourism Minister from 2014 to 2019, Mr Arief Yahya, commended Indonesia’s achievement in reaching the top 30 of the TTDI 2024 ranking. “In competition, we must know our position. Know yourself, know your enemy, and you will win the battle. And this ranking of 22 is beyond my expectation. My suggestion is to maintain consistency in improving and maintaining Indonesia’s position and achievements globally,” Mr Arief stated.
