Major running events in Indonesia attracted participants from around the world, promoting fitness, tourism, and community engagement.

Indonesia’s marathon scene experienced remarkable growth, with major events drawing thousands of runners from both local and international communities. These races not only encouraged an active lifestyle but also contributed to the country’s tourism and sports development.
The Maybank Marathon Bali, held on 25 August 2024, was among the largest marathon events in Indonesia, welcoming 13,500 runners from 57 countries. Participants came from nations such as Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Australia, and the United States, highlighting the event’s global appeal. The race featured different categories, including thefull marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.1 km), and a 10K run, with elite athletes competing for a prize pool exceeding IDR 2.7 billion. The course, set in Gianyar, Bali, took runners through scenic landscapes, traditional villages, and rice terraces, creating a unique cultural and sporting experience.
Another significant event was the Bali Hope Ultra Marathon, which took place on 24 May 2025. This endurance race challenged runners to navigate Bali’s varied terrain, from coastal routes to dense forests. The event also served a charitable purpose, supporting local community initiatives and environmental conservation efforts.

The Pocari Sweat Run in Bandung further showcased the growing enthusiasm for running in Indonesia. The urban marathon brought together both professional and amateur athletes, offering a well-organised route through Bandung’s city streets. The event strengthened the local sports community, fostering inclusivity among different levels of runners.
The increasing popularity of marathons across Indonesia demonstrated the nation’s commitment to health, tourism, and international sports engagement. Organisers continued to enhance event logistics and digital outreach, ensuring that these running events remained accessible and attractive to participants worldwide.
