The Women, Youth, and Family Commission (KPRK) of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) visited Singapore on October 17th, 2024, to enhance family resilience through cooperation with local communities. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Suryo Pratomo, at the Indonesian Embassy.

Dr. Siti Ma’rifah, Chair of KPRK MUI, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to visit Singapore and establish collaborative efforts focused on family resilience. She highlighted that the mission also aimed to address key issues such as stunting and the conditions of children of Indonesian migrant workers in Singapore. “We hope to gain insight into the religious moderation that has been well-practised here,” she stated.

Professor Amany Lubis, Head of MUI’s PRK Division, thanked the Indonesian Embassy for its hospitality and noted that the 17-member delegation included representatives from various Indonesian organisations. She underscored MUI’s prominent global role, which unites a diverse array of organisations from Indonesia.

Ambassador Suryo Pratomo emphasised the timeliness of KPRK MUI’s visit to Singapore, particularly in addressing religious moderation and the role of Muslim communities in fostering tolerance. He also discussed the contributions of Indonesian migrant workers, especially in childcare, noting their significant impact on Singaporean families due to the high cost of living and dual-income households.
