
The Indonesian School in Singapore (SIS) marked its 56th anniversary with a vibrant celebration highlighting cultural pride, community spirit, and educational excellence
Sekolah Indonesia (Singapura), also known as SIS, commemorated its 56th anniversary on Wednesday, 21 May 2025, with a joyful and meaningful celebration. The event, held on the school grounds, brought together students, teachers, staff, parents, and distinguished guests, including the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, Suryo Pratomo.


Carrying the theme of diversity and togetherness, the celebration featured a variety of activities that showcased the richness of Indonesian culture and the active participation of the school community. The programme began with an opening ceremony, followed by remarks from the Principal of SIS, Semuel Kuriake Balubun, and Ambassador Suryo Pratomo.
In his speech, Principal Balubun expressed his deep appreciation to all members of the school community for their dedication in developing SIS as an accomplished institution with a global outlook. He encouraged continued collaboration and innovation to further enhance the quality of education at SIS.
Ambassador Suryo Pratomo, in his address, emphasised SIS’s vital role as an educational and cultural ambassador of Indonesia abroad. He noted that SIS is not just a place of learning, but a cultural bridge and a symbol of national identity that nurtures global awareness and a strong sense of Indonesian pride.
The event featured an array of student performances celebrating Indonesian arts and traditions, energising the crowd with a sense of national pride. A student band also performed, adding to the festive atmosphere. One of the most anticipated highlights was the Lomba Tumpeng competition, where class representatives and parents creatively presented traditional Indonesian rice cone dishes, symbolising unity, cooperation, and the richness of Indonesian culinary heritage in an international setting.
