THE 36th Safkar Indopura Joint Exercise in 2024 aimed to further strengthen cooperation, build mutual trust, and serve as a vital platform for enhancing the skills and professionalism of the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) and the Singapore Army. The exercise was officially opened by the Indonesian Army Chief of Staff, General Maruli Simanjuntak, M.Sc., at the 411th Infantry Battalion Headquarters, Salatiga, Central Java, on Monday, September 2nd, 2024. He was accompanied by Singapore’s Chief of Army, Major General David Neo Chin Wee.

In his opening remarks, General Simanjuntak emphasised that the joint exercise not only reinforced the bilateral relationship that has been established over the past 36 years but also improved the operational readiness and capabilities of both armed forces. He noted that the primary goal of the 36th Safkar Indopura was to enhance cooperation and build trust between the two armies while improving the soldiers’ skills and professionalism, despite differences in military history and doctrine.

The 12-day exercise took place in Salatiga and Mount Merbabu, featuring various activities such as Professional Exchange, Live Firing Exercise, Command Post Exercise, and Field Training Exercise. These activities were designed to enhance unit capabilities, cooperation, and readiness to face future challenges together.

General Simanjuntak also underscored the importance of maintaining safety during the exercise and upholding the principles of equality, unity, and mutual respect between the two armies. Major General David Neo Chin Wee echoed these sentiments, expressing that Safkar Indopura was a valuable opportunity to share knowledge and experiences, understand each other’s tactics, and work together in complex situations.
