The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore held a diaspora dialogue on 28 May 2025 to strengthen ties between creative economy stakeholders from both countries
The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore hosted a diaspora dialogue titled “Indonesia’s Creative Economy in Singapore” on Tuesday, 28 May 2025. The event was organised as part of the official visit of Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, to Singapore from 27 to 31 May 2025.



Held at the Embassy’s auditorium, the discussion brought together around 50 participants, including representatives from the Indonesian Professionals Association (IPA), Gerakan Ekonomi Kreatif Nasional (Gekraf) Singapore Chapter, and the Indonesian Students Association (PPI) in Singapore. Ambassador of Indonesia to Singapore, Suryo Pratomo, delivered the opening remarks, emphasising the importance of collaboration between the government and the Indonesian diaspora in advancing the nation’s creative economy on the global stage.
Vice Minister Irene Umar expressed her appreciation for the Indonesian diaspora’s active role in promoting and developing the country’s creative economy. She highlighted the sector’s strategic role in enhancing economic resilience and providing inclusive solutions for the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and community empowerment. She also shared updates on recent policies and developments supporting Indonesia’s creative economy.



The interactive discussion explored collaborative opportunities between Indonesian creative industry players and the international community in Singapore. Key topics included the export potential of Indonesian creative products, cultural promotion through creative economy initiatives, and capacity building for MSMEs through global mentorship and networking.
During her working visit, Vice Minister Irene Umar also served as a speaker in the Asia Tech x Singapore 2025 event, particularly in the session “Level Up – Gaming, AI and the Future of the Creative Economy in Southeast Asia.”
