Leading experts discuss circular economy and resilience at the Charles Rudd Distinguished Global Lectures 2025

The Charles Rudd Distinguished Global Lectures 2025 (CRDGL 2025), co-organised by the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP), concluded on a high note on 11 February 2025. The event attracted over 1,000 of participants, both in-person and online, for insightful discussions on the theme ‘Towards a Sustainable World: Engineering the Way Forward’.

Held in Singapore, the conference focused on two key areas—circular economy and a resilient future—highlighting the crucial role of engineering in driving progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Experts and professionals shared perspectives on innovative solutions to enhance sustainability in industries and urban development.

Keynote speeches were delivered by Ms Tita Yowana Alwis, Minister-Counsellor and Head of Economy at the Embassy of Indonesia, and Mr Kelvin Wong, CEO of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA). Their addresses underscored the importance of sustainable engineering practices and regulatory frameworks in shaping a greener future.
The event was graced by Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faisal Ibrahim, Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development, as the Guest of Honour. His presence reinforced the government’s commitment to sustainability and resilience in urban planning and infrastructure.
With a strong turnout and engaging discussions, CRDGL 2025 successfully reinforced the role of engineering in addressing global sustainability challenges, paving the way for future collaborations and innovations in the field.
