IN a joint effort to bolster tourism development, Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines have intensified their commercial collaboration. The commitment was reaffirmed by Mr Irfan Setiaputra, CEO of Garuda Indonesia, in Jakarta on Monday, 20th May 2024. This initiative aims to attract tourists to Indonesia through joint marketing strategies, including familiarisation trips for travel agents and media.

Expanding commercial collaboration on programs which both airlines offer to their frequent flyers is part of the commitment to strengthen the aviation business ecosystem. Mr Irfan emphasised that Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines will maximise diverse advantages for their customers, including frequent flyer systems. Through codeshare flights run by both airlines, GarudaMiles and KrisFlyer members can now increase or redeem more miles.

The expanded collaboration also includes joint promotion of tourism and exploring potential revenue-sharing opportunities, which are currently being examined by regulators. These plans are a continuation of the joint venture initiative that the two airlines have been exploring since 2023 and are currently finalising.

By working together, both airlines will explore opportunities to utilise their capacities and networks on flights between Indonesia and Singapore, providing passengers with more flight options at competitive prices. Mr Irfan highlighted that this partnership will also strengthen Garuda Indonesia’s support for national tourism by attracting foreign tourists visiting Indonesia via Singapore.

Mr Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines, expressed that the mutually beneficial partnership with Garuda Indonesia will enhance connectivity between Indonesia and Singapore. This will fulfil the growing demand for air travel between the two countries and promote tourism and economic growth.
