Indonesia’s Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian and Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, Suryo Pratomo, have lauded Singapore’s state management achievements, advocating for Indonesia to replicate them. The endorsement was made during Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU) regional conference in Jakarta, attended by over 200 NTU alumni.
Minister Karnavian emphasized the potential for Indonesia to harness technology-based research from universities to streamline administrative processes and improve citizen services. Ambassador Suryo Pratomo echoed these sentiments during a panel discussion, citing Indonesia’s burgeoning digital economy with over two thousand startups, two decacorns, and more than seven unicorns.
Suryo Pratomo projected Indonesia’s digital economy to grow by 52% in 2021, reaching approximately US$53 billion, with expectations to surpass US$124 billion by 2025. Collaboration with Singapore, a global financial and technology hub, is deemed highly beneficial for Indonesia’s digital growth.
