INJOURNEY ANNOUNCES A TURNOUT OF 70,000 ATTENDEES FOR THE 2024 F1 POWERBOAT CHAMPIONSHIP AT LAKE TOBA, MARKING A SIGNIFICANT BOOST FOR TOURISM AND THE LOCAL ECONOMY
INJOURNEY, represented by Marketing and Tourism Program Director Maya Watono, expressed gratitude to all involved parties for their enthusiasm and support towards the event, which took place on 2 – 3 March 2024. Ibu Watono highlighted the potential positive impact on Lake Toba’s tourism sector and the surrounding community’s economy.
The 2024 Lake Toba F1 Powerboat Grand Prix, held at Mulia Raja Harbour in Balige, Toba District, North Sumatra Province, attracted approximately 17 racers from 11 countries. The event, known for its thrilling races and the scenic backdrop of Lake Toba, garnered significant anticipation among spectators.
Rusty Wyatt from the Sharjah Team clinched victory in the championship, followed by Erik Stark from the Victory Team (SWE) in second place and Jonas Andersson from Team Bình nh-Vietnam in third. The event also featured the Aquabike Indonesia Championship (AIC), providing a platform for around 20 Indonesian jet ski racers to hone their skills and prepare for future competitions.
InJourney anticipates that the success of the 2024 F1 Powerboat event will surpass the economic impact generated by its predecessor in 2023, which amounted to Rp1.68 trillion (US$101 million). Additionally, organising such events in super-priority tourism destinations like Lake Toba aligns with InJourney’s efforts to foster sustainable tourism development in Indonesia.
Bu Watono emphasised the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders, including local governments, the private sector, and state-owned enterprises, in realising the full potential of tourism destinations. By working together, these parties can maximise the economic benefits and promote long-term sustainability in Indonesia’s tourism sector.
