The Makassar City Government, in partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has announced plans to organise a monumental Iftar gathering spanning 2.5km along Losari Beach in South Sulawesi.

Riswan Ilyas, Chairman of the Longest Iftar Committee, highlighted the significance of this event in strengthening the bond between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, both pivotal in the global Muslim community.

Organised in conjunction with the I-Salam Foundation, the Iftar aims to accommodate 10,000 participants, who will collectively break their fast along the extensive 2.5km stretch at sunset.

This marks the third consecutive year for Saudi Arabia to host such a mass Iftar, with previous events held at prominent locations in Jakarta and Padang City. Now, Makassar City takes the spotlight, showcasing its cultural richness to an international audience.

Mayor Ramdhan Pomanto has mobilised various governmental agencies, including KESBANGPOL (National Unity, Politics and Community Protection Agency Government) , the Transportation Office, and Satpol PP (Municipal Police), alongside local stakeholders, to ensure the seamless execution of the event.

Additionally, the city administration has leveraged social media platforms to promote this grand Iftar, aiming to position Makassar as a dynamic metropolitan hub in Indonesia’s eastern region, while fostering cross-cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
