THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, CULTURE, RESEARCH, AND TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES PLANS TO DISBURSE IDR4.7 TRILLION IN 2024 TO PROCURE GOODS AND SERVICES FROM DOMESTIC INDUSTRIES, AIMING TO ENHANCE CAPABILITIES AND SUPPORT LOCAL PRODUCTION.

Bapak Triyantoro, the Head of the Ministry’s Goods and Services Procurement Department, revealed on 5 March 2024 the ministry’s readiness to allocate IDR4.7 trillion for the procurement of goods and services from domestic industries in 2024. The move is aimed at bolstering the production capacity of domestic industries, particularly those involved in laboratory equipment production.

The ministry intends to utilise the allocated funds to procure laboratory equipment for universities, addressing the urgent need for updated equipment in various educational institutions across the country. Pak Triyantoro emphasised the importance of this investment to enhance capabilities and avoid hindrances caused by outdated equipment.

Expressing hope for a positive response from domestic industry players, Pak Triyantoro highlighted the ministry’s commitment to reducing dependence on imported products and aligning with the government’s target of exceeding a 95 percent utilisation rate for domestic products.

The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Industry’s efforts to promote the utilisation of domestic products, as demonstrated during a business matching event held in Denpasar from March 4 to 7. The event witnessed the participation of 182 booths representing 18 industrial clusters, aimed at promoting the use of domestically-produced goods.

During the event, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita expressed optimism about achieving the target set for the first quarter of 2024, which aims to realise a contract value of IDR250 trillion for domestic-made products. The government aims to leverage its purchasing power to support local industries, with identified potential government spending for domestic products amounting to IDR1,223 trillion.

By the event’s third day, commitments to purchase domestic-made products had already reached a significant value of at least IDR90 trillion, showcasing a promising start towards achieving the government’s objectives and bolstering domestic industry growth.
