DIRECTOR GENERAL OF CIVIL AVIATION ANNOUNCES PLANS TO OVERSEE AIR TRANSPORTATION AT 51 AIRPORTS DURING THE EID HOLIDAYS, WITH AN EXPECTED SURGE IN PASSENGER NUMBERS.

The Ministry of Transportation, under the supervision of Director General of Civil Aviation Maria Kristi Endah Murni, revealed its strategy to monitor air transportation activities across 51 airports during the Eid al-Fitr holidays. The ministry will set up Eid posts at airports from April 3 – 18, focusing on overseeing domestic flights at 51 airports and international flights at 16 airports.

Murni disclosed that the anticipated number of passengers using air transportation during the 2024 Eid homecoming period is estimated to exceed 4 million, in line with previous years’ trends. The ministry foresees a significant increase of 12 percent compared to the previous year, specifically for air travel during the Eid holiday season.

During the peak of the homecoming flow, starting April 6, the airport is estimated to accommodate around 310,411 passengers, consisting of 261,206 domestic travelers and 49,205 international passengers. In anticipation of the return flow, which peaks from April 14, an estimated 314,449 passengers are expected with 261,573 domestic passengers and 52,875 international travelers.

To accommodate the surge in passenger numbers, the ministry estimates it will require 329 aircraft based on the current fleet availability of 420 aircraft, to meet the demand for domestic air transport during Eid 2024. Murni emphasized that the current air transport capacity is deemed sufficient for the influx of travelers during the Eid holidays.

Apart from supervising logistics, Murni urged all relevant stakeholders to prepare contingency plans to overcome potential challenges such as bad weather conditions, accidents, force majeure events, and security threats, to ensure the safety and efficiency of air travel operations.

Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of properly managing delays and providing quality services to passengers, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and seamless travel experience for all.
