The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) at Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) has partnered with the National University of Singapore School of Continuing and Lifelong Education (NUS SCALE) to launch a double degree Master’s programme. The initiative, which has been in development for three years, was officially introduced on 6 March 2025 at Bale Sawala, Unpad Rectorate Building, Jatinangor.

Prof. Rizky Abdulah, Vice Rector for Research, Cooperation, and Marketing at Unpad, highlighted the programme as a significant step towards academic excellence and international collaboration in fisheries, marine conservation, and environmental management. The partnership builds on previous cooperation between Unpad and NUS, including the NUS Young Fellowship Programme, and was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in December 2024. The agreement covers a dual Master’s degree in Fisheries and Marine Conservation from Unpad and a Master of Science in Environmental Management from NUS SCALE.

Dr. Yudi Nurul Ihsan, Dean of FPIK Unpad, stated that Indonesia has substantial economic potential in the marine and fisheries sector. He emphasised that developing human resources to manage this potential effectively is essential, and the collaboration with NUS aligns with efforts to position Unpad as a world-class university. Prof. Eddie Lau Siu-Kit, Director of the Master of Science in Environmental Management Programme at NUS SCALE, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Indonesian students and strengthening ASEAN academic and professional networks.

The programme is designed to enhance academic capacity and research in marine and fisheries studies while fostering international cooperation in higher education. It offers students the opportunity to study in both Indonesia and Singapore, gain global perspectives, and participate in internships with Singapore-based companies, helping them establish professional networks. The initiative also aligns with government priorities on sustainable development, particularly in advancing the blue economy and green economy.

As part of the launch event, a masterclass was conducted by Prof. Eddie Lau Siu-Kit, titled “Urban Energy and Blue Solutions: Sustainable Power for Expanding Cities”. The session provided insights into sustainable energy solutions for urban development and encouraged interactive discussions among participants.
