Universitas Gadjah Mada participated in the RI-SING 2024 meeting at Singapore Management University, aiming to advance education and research ties between Indonesia and Singapore
Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) sent a delegation to the 3rd Republic of Indonesia-Singapore University Network Meeting (RI-SING), held on 12–13 November 2024 at Singapore Management University (SMU). The event, a collaboration between Singaporean and Indonesian universities, seeks to foster long-term partnerships in education and research.
The UGM delegation included Prof. Suadi, Director of Human Resources; Prof. Dr. Puji Astuti, M.Sc., Apt., Director of Partnerships, Alumni, and International Affairs; and Trianna Wahyu Utami, MD.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean of Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Faculty of Dentistry. Additional members were Dr. Sukirno from the Faculty of Biology and Anrizandy Narwidina, M.DSc, Sp.KGA, Ph.D., Faculty of Dentistry lecturer.
RI-SING was initiated by six Singaporean universities, including National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), alongside five Indonesian institutions, including UGM, Universitas Indonesia (UI), and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). The 2024 agenda focused on strengthening academic collaboration to address global challenges and prepare students with professional competencies.
Professor Lily Kong, President of SMU, expressed optimism about the collaboration. “Indonesia’s dynamic and rapidly growing economy offers tremendous potential for academic and research partnerships. This exchange of knowledge will benefit both nations,” she remarked. Echoing this sentiment, Prof. Dr. Puji Astuti presented UGM’s progress in initiatives such as student exchange programs, research collaborations, and international guest lectures, with notable partnerships in faculties like Economics, Biology, and Medicine.
In a panel discussion titled Leadership & Human Capital Development, Prof. Suadi highlighted the unique governance systems of Indonesian universities compared to Singaporean institutions. He emphasised the importance of leadership training to balance education services and research development, advocating for a comprehensive leadership development program for academic staff and administrators.
