Mr Suryo Pratomo, delivers a speech at the official launch of the Electronic Seafarers Identity Document (e-SID) service at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore

On November 30, 2024, the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation’s Directorate General of Sea Transportation, officially launched the Electronic Seafarers Identity Document (e-SID) service. The ceremony took place at the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Singapore and marked a significant step in supporting Indonesian seafarers working internationally.

The event was attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, Mr Suryo Pratomo, Acting Transportation Attaché at KBRI Singapore, Mrs Arinta, Director of PT. Ardi Arta Pratama, and representatives of Indonesian seafarers based in Singapore. Representing the Director of Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Capt. Hendri Ginting, the Head of the Maritime Sub-Directorate, Capt. Indang Noerkajati, reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of Indonesian seafarers abroad.

Capt. Hendri highlighted several benefits of the e-SID, including visa-free access to international ports, official recognition as maritime workers, streamlined repatriation processes, enhanced legal protection under international law, and improved data security through biometric fingerprint technology.

During the event, symbolic e-SID cards were handed over to representatives of Indonesian seafarers in Singapore.

The Seafarers Identity Document (SID) is an official identification document tailored for seafarers, adhering to international standards outlined in ILO Convention No. 185. It facilitates mobility in international waters, provides easier port access, and ensures the protection and recognition of seafarers’ rights.
