The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore held a talk show to raise awareness about domestic violence and children’s rights on August 2, 2024
AS part of its gender mainstreaming efforts, the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore organised a Talk Show titled “Raising Awareness on Domestic Violence and the Rights of Children” on August 2nd, 2024. The event aimed to educate Indonesians in Singapore about gender-based violence and children’s rights.
The Talk Show featured several prominent speakers: the Expert Staff of the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs for Management and Gender Mainstreaming Coordinator, Mr. Acep Somantri; Singapore’s Ministry of Social and Family Development representative, Mr. Mohamad Khidir Bin Halek; Commissioner of the National Commission on Violence Against Women and Children’s Protection, Ms. Siti Aminah Tardi; and Professor of Psychology at the University of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Elizabeth Kristi Poerwandari. Ms. Juriani Nurhayati, the Counsellor and Gender Mainstreaming PIC of the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, and Attorney’s Attaché, Ms. Mahayu Dian Suryandari, moderated the session.
In his opening remarks, the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Suryo Pratomo, highlighted the importance of recognizing domestic violence as a public issue and the collective responsibility to prevent and eliminate it.
The Talk Show targeted all Indonesians in Singapore, including migrant workers, with the goal of enhancing their understanding of domestic violence. The discussions covered policies and regulations from both the Indonesian and Singaporean governments related to prevention, treatment, victim protection, and law enforcement against perpetrators.
Representatives from various Indonesian diaspora organisations in Singapore, such as PWIS, PERCA, and FKMIS, attended the event, which was supported by the Dharma Wanita Persatuan of the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. The event received positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the valuable information and knowledge on preventing and responding to domestic violence.
