Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Bapak Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, revealed that the 2023 F1 Powerboat event held at Lake Toba had a remarkable economic impact, amounting to IDR1.68 trillion (US$106 million), and attracted approximately 100,000 tourists. He made this statement during the Lake Toba F1 Powerboat Press Conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Pandjaitan emphasized the importance of international events like the F1 Powerboat in showcasing new tourist destinations to visitors, underscoring the significance of such events for the local community as a continuous attraction.
The minister expressed his gratitude for Indonesia being recognized as the best organizer for both the F1 Powerboat in 2023 and the UIM ABP Aquabike World Championship, as listed on the official F1H2O website. He commended the efforts of InJourney and other stakeholders involved in organizing the successful event at Lake Toba.
Acknowledging the crucial role of collaborative efforts, Pandjaitan extended appreciation to entities such as state-owned oil company Pertamina and state-owned electricity company PLN, highlighting their contributions to the event’s success under the leadership of President Joko Widodo.
Looking ahead to future endeavors, Pandjaitan called upon all stakeholders to unite and collaborate for the successful organization of the 2024 F1 Powerboat event at Lake Toba, scheduled for March 2-3, 2024, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation for such ventures.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Pak Dito Ariotedjo, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing how the F1 Powerboat event not only boosts Indonesia’s global reputation as a host of world-class championships but also serves as a catalyst for tourism growth, even amidst other significant events like elections, showcasing Indonesia’s ability to manage multiple international events seamlessly.
