In collaboration with Artground, an experiential space has been created to introduce children to the concept of ‘Movement and Sound’ through dance, music and theater.
Segment 1: Dance and Movement
Groove along to three dance forms – bharatanatyam, odissi and kathak – in dance pods where on-screen dancers demonstrate dance movements for children to mimic! The pods are designed to give children privacy as they try these new moves, and the steps are broken down to feet movements, hand gestures, and torso movements for easy learning.
Segment 2: Music and Rhythm
Explore the Indian musical concept of konnakol, where percussion syllables are performed vocally! Played on a mridangam, a traditional South Indian instrument, the beats activate colorful lights on the circular structure. Mimic the rhythm by
tapping your hands and stomping your feet as you try to “catch the lights” on the structure.
Segment 3: Theatre and Stories
Recreate scenes from Indian folklore with magnets on a backdrop and costumes on stage, or play around with a rotating structure to create your own versions of traditional costumes! This segment introduces the stories Krishna and the fruit
seller and Hanuman and the sun, through three segments:
- ‘Mix and match’ rotating structure
- Indian folklore storybook
- Stage with magnetic backdrop and theater props
