High above the waters of Kampar, Ulu Kasok offers one of Riau’s most striking landscapes — but its true appeal goes beyond the view.
Located in Kampar, around one to two hours from Pekanbaru, Ulu Kasok has quickly gained attention as one of the most photogenic destinations in Riau. Often referred to as the “Raja Ampat of Riau,” the viewpoint overlooks a vast reservoir dotted with small green islands, creating a landscape that feels almost unreal. From above, the scenery is expansive and calm — a rare combination that draws both travellers and photographers.
Reaching the viewpoint requires a short but slightly steep climb, which adds to the sense of arrival. As visitors make their way up, the surrounding greenery gradually opens to reveal the full panorama. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon, when softer light enhances the contours of the hills and reflects gently on the water below. At these hours, the atmosphere feels quieter and more immersive.
Despite its growing popularity, Ulu Kasok still retains a sense of simplicity. Facilities remain basic, and the experience is largely centred around the landscape itself rather than curated attractions. Visitors often spend their time taking in the view, capturing photos, or simply sitting in silence. It is this unpolished quality that makes the destination feel genuine.
For those exploring beyond Pekanbaru, Ulu Kasok offers more than just a scenic stop — it provides a moment of pause. The journey, the climb, and the view come together to create an experience that feels both rewarding and grounding. In a region still developing its tourism identity, Ulu Kasok stands as a reminder that sometimes, the simplest places leave the strongest impression.
